A clipper is a transfer curve — a bend that shaves your peaks. DeltaClip draws that curve live, with your actual signal tracing it: five characters, a knee you morph, and every channel with its own bank. You set the clip by watching what it does.

The idea

Every clipper is a curve. This one shows it.

Dry level in, wet level out — the clip is the bend

Hard or soft, clean or coloured — a clipper’s whole character is one dry-in → wet-out curve. Most clippers never show it. You turn a knob and trust your ears to catch what the ceiling is doing to your transients.

DeltaClip’s SHAPE view draws the transfer as a live phosphor — your actual samples tracing the actual curve. Turn DRIVE and watch the signal climb into the bend; morph the KNEE and watch the corner round off. One big plot in Stereo — two side by side, in channel colours, for L/R and M/S.

Characters

Five curves. The icons are the buttons.

Five clip characters, ordered by corner radius — from a razor edge to a wide, early bend. Each button is its curve: what you click is what the clipper does.

And each character carries its own KNEE morph — the knee doesn’t switch you to a different curve, it reshapes the one you’re on. Character picks the family; knee dials the corner.

Channel-aware

A clipper per channel.

Three banks: Stereo, L / R, M / S — and each channel keeps its own DRIVE, CEILING (down to −36 dB), KNEE and MIX.

The channel selector is two-stage: pick the domain, then the channel you’re editing. LINK keeps channels moving in step, and one click copies a bank across — dial in one side, carry it over, then diverge where it matters.

Truthful metering

The shave, drawn on the signal.

The SIG view scrolls your signal with the clip drawn on it — the level that came in and the exact per-sample gain reduction the clipper took off. Measured, not reconstructed.

And the TRUE-PEAK LENS: click the TRUE PK readout and see the overshoot itself — the real samples sitting under the ceiling, and the reconstructed waveform arcing past 0 dBFS between them. Inter-sample peaks, drawn instead of asserted.

Before & after the clip

DENSITY in. SMOOTH out.

DENSITY adds upward loudness and warmth before the clip — peak-preserving, so transients stay. Its top octave returns to unity: pushing it never brightens the air.

SMOOTH and WARMTH condition the result after the clip — adaptively. They track how much clipping is actually happening: clean signal passes untouched, and the harder you clip, the more SMOOTH tames the added harshness and WARMTH restores the low-mid body the clip thinned out.

Honest by design

Hear what the clip removed.

Δ plays exactly what the clipper took away — the fastest way to hear whether it’s shaving transient edges or eating into the body. A second, level-matched Δ state judges the tone of the removal at equal loudness.

Add A/B snapshots, a channel-aware loudness meter and held true-peak readouts, and louder can’t masquerade as better — you compare the clipping, not the volume.

Oversampling ×16
Up to 16×, with three reconstruction modes: NAT minimum-phase, LIN linear-phase, and MSTR — a long linear-phase reconstruction for an organic transfer.
Band focus
LOW and HIGH CUT around the clipper — clip only a band, the rest passes through clean.
FREEZE
Grain-loop a moment of the incoming audio and tune the clip on it — the same hit, over and over, until it sits right.
A/B snapshots
Two full settings snapshots — set up two ideas and flip between them.
Loudness meter
A channel-aware loudness rail that follows the channel you are editing, with held true-peak readouts.
Honest readouts
TRUE PK holds its maximum until you reset it; PLR is averaged over time — numbers you can act on, not flickers.
